Cluster Flies

Cluster Flies Pest Control Service

Intelligent Pest Control offer a prompt and effective pest control service for cluster flies in Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, Northampton and all surrounding areas.

Cluster flies are a member of the blowfly family and get the name because they group together in large numbers to overwinter. During September and October they seek out a protected place to hibernate and usually favour attics. Once a suitable site has been found they will return to the same place year after year.

Case Study

Customer

On a routine pest prevention inspection at a stately home in Leicestershire we were asked by the housekeeper if there was anything we could do to get rid of flies. We asked where they were and how long they had been causing a problem and she took us upstairs to one of the many rooms.

Problem

The floor of the room was littered with hundreds of flies and she couldn’t understand where they were all coming from as she had only vacuumed the carpet the day before. We identified the pest as cluster flies which group together in large number to hibernate during the winter. As it was early spring and as the weather was beginning to warm up the flies were trying to get back outside. A disused fireplace seemed to be where the flies were coming from and those heading down the chimney had got trapped in the bedroom.

Solution

Cluster flies are usually a reoccurring problem and we needed to act quickly to try and break the cycle and prevent a problem the following autumn. There were lots of very valuable antiques in the room but we knew they were going to be safe during the treatment. We used specialist equipment to fill the room and chimney with a measured dose of insecticide to deliver a swift and lethal blow to the flies. To ensure nobody entered the room until the insecticide had dispersed we advised that the door should be kept locked for a couple of hours.

Result

In this situation it is important to know that the products we use are safe and effective. Within a very short space of time everything was back to normal and the flies were gone.
