Preferred foods are cereal products, although rats are omnivores and will eat almost anything that humans eat. Most damage caused by rats is through gnawing and ripping open packets of food. They also spoil and contaminate food with their urine, droppings and hair.

Rats gnaw continually to wear down their front teeth, even on non-food materials such as electrical cables, pipework and wooden fixtures.

The most likely cause of a flea problem is that fleas are bought into the home by your pets, you, your family or visitors.

Adult fleas are a parasite which means that they live on other living things and are reliant on them for their food and survival, in the case of fleas they feed on the blood of their host, normally your pet.

Female fleas lay their eggs after feeding on their host. The eggs they produce then drop onto the pet or the floor or onto the animals bedding. After a few days the eggs will develop into larvae which take 2-3 weeks to fully develop. Once the larvae are developed they spin a cocoon where it spends a further two to three weeks before emerging as an adult flea.

Female fleas lay eggs normally in batches of approx. 20 and an infestation can quickly occur. Once you have an indication that you may have a flea problem then contact us immediately. Fleas are usually 1.5 - 3mm long and are a reddish dark brown colour as you are probably aware they are extremely good at jumping so if you see small "bugs" jumping you may well have the start of a flea problem.
